In annealing a subject material in a bright-annealing ambient gas while continuously transporting the subject material from heating zone to a cooling zone, white powder contained in the ambient gas is adequately removed so as to appropriately prevent the white powder from piling on a cooler and the like to lower cool efficiency or from piling on a surface of the subject material to impair the brilliance thereof. In a continuous annealing furnace 10 which anneals a subject material 1 in the bright-annealing ambient gas while continuously transporting the subject material 1 from a heating zone 12 to cooling zones 13a to 13c, a guiding duct 17 is provided which introduces the ambient gas containing a white powder component from the continuous annealing furnace to a white powder removal portion 30. This white powder removal portion is provided with a cooling roll 32 for inducing the formation of white powder by cooling the ambient gas, and removing means 33 for removing the white powder formed on the cooling roll. |
