A bracket 1 for mounting a pole or rope handle to a coffin 7 is made of natural sustainable material, e.g. wood, and is bolted to the coffin through a fixing hole 4 that, in use, is concealed by the handle which is received in a handle hole 3. Pairs of brackets may be mounted to the coffin to allow a rope or wooden pole to form a handle that spans the brackets and is spaced from the coffin to provide secure handling by pole bearers [as shown in Fig. 5]. In use, forces are transmitted from the handle to the fixing bolt. The bracket provides an environmentally friendly means of mounting a handle to a coffin making it suitable for green burials as well as conventional burials and cremations. |
