<p>Al wire and ribbon conductors are electroplated with protective coatings of Cu, Sn, Ag, Ni, Cd, Cr and hard chromium after pretreating them by passing them successively through pretreatment baths and galvanic baths. The ribbon or wire is guided through the chemical pretreatment baths and a galanic bath in a contact-free manner in tubes or troughs which are open in the direction of pull. This enables the wire or ribbon to be electroplated with a coating that adheres firmly enough not to be removed by the time it reaches the first point of deflection, hence preventing partial oxidation of the wire and the formation of bubbles in the subsequent coating.</p> |
