1293029 Chlorinated polymers of cyclopentene FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 18 Dec 1970 [10 Jan 1970] 60191/70 Heading C3P Chlorinated polymers of cyclopentene produced by ring-opening polymerization may be prepared by treating the polymers with chlorine at 0‹ to 150‹ C., optionally in the presence of free radical catalysts, e.g. peroxides and azo compounds, or actinic light. The reaction may be effected in a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, tetrachloroethane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloro ethylene, pentachloroethane or chlorobenzenes; using chlorine or a chlorinating agent such as sulphuryl chloride, phosphorus pentachloride, phosphorus oxychloride or antimony pentachloride. The products may be used for plasticizing polyvinyl chloride and for the preparation of elastic films and coatings. They may be stabilized with phenoxypropylene oxide, tin compounds and zinc, lead, magnesium and cadmium carboxylates; and may be crosslinked with peroxides, amines and polyvalent metal compounds.
|
