1328414 Golf club heads J H INGLIS 2 Feb 1972 [23 March 1971] 7793/71 Heading A6D A golf club head has a major horizontal section which is a segment of a circle and whose chord is contained in the substantially planar striking face of the head, the shaft socket axis being contained in a plane parallel to said chord and normal to the club sole and being inclined to the sole such that either (a) the intersection of the shaft axis and the said horizontal section is more than ¥ of an inch from the part of the club head nearest a player addressing a ball or (b) the centre of gravity of the club head is contained in a plane normal to the striking face and including the shaft socket axis. The mean plane of the striking face may be inclined to the sole as follows:- No. 1 club head 11‹ No. 2 club head 13¢‹ No. 3 club head 16¢‹ No. 4 club head 19‹ No. 5 club head 21‹ No. 6 club head 24‹ Club heads in accordance with the invention may be made from laminated hardwood or injection moulded from a synthetic polyamide (e.g. nylon 66 of specific gravity 1.14 and molecular weight from 15,000-45,000). A shaft (e.g. of steel) may be adhered in the socket and a ferrule used to confer a flush joint. |
