1328732 Substituted phenylhydrazones ROUSSEL-UCLAF 17 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 43498/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises substituted phenylhydrazones of formula wherein X and Y, which may be the same or different, each represent hydrogen, a chlorine or bromine atom, an alkyl radical, an NO 2 group, an alkoxy radical, or a trifluoromethyl group; Z represents hydrogen, a chlorine or bromine atom, an alkyl radical, an NO 2 group or an alkoxy radical; X1 represents hydrogen, a chlorine or bromine atom, an alkyl radical, an NO 2 group, an alkoxy radical, a trifluoromethyl group, a benzyloxy group, or a thiocyano group, Y1 represents hydrogen, a chlorine or bromine atom, an alkyl radical, an NO 2 group, or a trifluoromethyl group; Z1 represents hydrogen, a chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl radical; and R1 and R2 which may be the same or different each represent hydrogen, an alkyl radical, a benzyl group, an unsubstituted or chlorine-, bromine-, or alkoxy substituted aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, a furfuryl group, or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bound, represent a heterocyclic group; provided that at least one of X, Y, Z, X1, Y1, Z1, is not hydrogen. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a corresponding (α-chloro)- benzylidene-phenylhydrazine of formula wherein X, Y, Z, X1, Y1 and Z1 are as defined above, with a nitrogenous reagent of formula R1R2NH (wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above). Out of many compounds disclosed, the following may be mentioned as the representatives of various classes: N-(α-dimethylaminobenzylidene) - 4 - nitrophenylhydrazine; N- (α - dimethylamino - 41 - chlorobenzylidene)- 3,4 - dichlorophenylhydrazine; N - (α - aminobenzylidene) - 4 - chlorophenylhydrazine; N - (α - morpholinyl - 21,41 - dichlorobenzylidene) - phenylhydrazine; N - (α - diisopropylamino - 41 - methoxybenzylidene) - 4 - chlorophenylhydrazine; N - (α - dimethylaminobenzylidene) - 4 - thiocyanophenylhydrazine. The invention also comprises a fungicidal composition which contains one or more phenylhydrazone(s) according to the invention in association with a suitable carrier.
