<p>An electronic program guide is displayed in a manner that does not interfere with the presentation of program content. Thus, the electronic program guide is displayed on a first display surface (304,704) which is distinct from a second display surface (308,504). For example, the receiver may output altered 3D output signals with one frequency of the output signal containing EPG data and a second frequency of the 3D output signal containing visual content from the broadcast program. Headsets (304,308) are worn by the viewers so that each viewer may either see the program or see the electronic program guide. In another embodiment, an EPG is periodically inserted into the video stream during predetermined frames, which are then captured and held by a synchronized headset.
