A method for modifying the surface of microchannels in a polycarbonate object comprising carrying a modifying solution through the microchannels, where the modifying solution contains: a primary amine with an alkyl chain; and an aliphatic alcohol. The primary amine may comprise an alkyl chain of at least 6 carbon atoms, and is preferably dodecylamine. The aliphatic alcohol may be selected from methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, n-propanol, or mixtures thereof, and is preferably ethanol. The concentration of the primary amine in the modifying solution may be from 2.5% to 10% w/w, and the method may take place at 25 oC â 70 oC for 30 minutes to 16 hours. The method renders the surface of the microchannels hydrophobic. Also disclosed is a polycarbonate object comprising a microchannel that is modified according to the disclosed method. |
