PURPOSE: A smart cruise control system for a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to enable a driver to conveniently drive a vehicle by automatically controlling the speed of the vehicle under safe speed depending on road conditions. CONSTITUTION: A smart cruise control system for a vehicle comprises a safety range determining unit(230), an alarming and displaying unit(240), and a curvature estimating unit(210). The safety range determining unit determines whether a point within a safety distance between vehicles is sensed. If the point is not sensed within the safety distance, the alarming and displaying unit displays corresponding information and outputs an alarm. The curvature estimating unit estimates the curvature of a road using the yaw rate and steering angle of the vehicles. |
