PURPOSE: An automatic operation system for inspecting the thread of a wheel installed in a rail is provided to prevent a safety accident by rapidly diagnosing and monitoring cracks on the tread of a wheel. CONSTITUTION: An automatic operation system for inspecting the thread of a wheel installed in a rail comprises a rigid sensor structure(1), a vehicle recognition device(2), a vehicle wheel recognition device(3), a control device(5), and a software(6). The rigid sensor structure is composed of a rail-shaped sensor unit. The vehicle recognition device recognizes a railway vehicle entering into a measurement standby state. The vehicle wheel recognition device is installed in the rigid sensor structure and detects the treads of wheels reaching the position of a sensor. The control device converts the electric signal outputted from the sensor into a digital signal and interfaces the digital signal to a computer. The software extracts defect information from the digital signal and recognizes the defect information.
