1324310 Splitting H DARDA 2 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 25995/72 Heading B5E [Also in Division El] A stone or rock splitting tool comprises a cylinder block 10 containing an hydraulically operated piston 11 connected by its rod 14 to a pull wedge 13 slidably engaging and acting upon laterally movable inserts 12 which are insertable into drilled holes and internally tapered to match the angle of inclination of the pull wedge, the contacting sliding surfaces of the inserts and of the pull wedge or of the pull wedge only consisting of abrasion-resistant robust facings. The inserts are connected to the cylinder 10, and the wedge 13 is combined with the piston-rod. In one embodiment, the facings 12a, 13a, are provided on the sliding surfaces of both the wedge and inserts and consist of hard metal or carbide. In another embodiment, the facings are provided only in the sliding surfaces of the wedge and the inserts 12 are in the form of flexible rods or plate which, after an initial splitting of the rock, are bulged out by a stop 15a on a rod 15 secured to the wedge to force the split rock further apart. |
