The invention provides a fishing rod holder specific for mounting on common cottage and marine docks which are constructed with a natural wood or engineered wood board surface where the boards are laid with small spaces between them for drainage. The fishing rod holder consists of a plain or slotted tube to support the fishing rod by slipping the fishing rod handle down into the tube. The tube is attached lengthwise to the top portion of a thin support shaft which extends downward and is long enough to support the fishing rod handle well above the surface of the dock. Attached to the bottom end of the support shaft are two short thin cross pieces fastened perpendicular to the support shaft and parallel to each other. The middle of these cross pieces are fastened to the support shaft. These two cross pieces are spaced apart slightly greater than the thickness of standard dock boards. The bottom cross piece is fastened to the very bottom tip of the support shaft. The fishing rod holder is mounted by lining up the cross pieces with the slot between any two dock boards. The rod holder shaft is slipped down in the slot until the bottom cross piece is below the dock boards and the upper cross piece is still above the dock boards. The rod holder is then rotated 90 degrees so the cross pieces are perpendicular to the slot and thus prevents the rod holder from the failing further into the dock slot or being pulled back up through the slot. The rod holder then securely rests on the dock supporting the fishing rod and reel.
