PURPOSE: A method for detecting base dimer using gold nanoparticles is provided to develop medicinal products. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting base dimer in nucleic acid molecules using gold nanoparticles comprises: a step of mixing the gold nanoparticles with a sample containing nucleic acid molecules; a step of adding salt to the mixture; a step of measuring color change or absorption spectrum to detect base dimers in the nucleic acid molecules. The base dimer is mutagenic DNA photoproducts.
