The present invention suppresses passage of electricity to a casing (4) of an electrically heated catalyst (1). The electrically heated catalyst (1) is provided with: a heating body (2) which generates heat by means of current; the casing (4) which accommodates the heating body (2); a mat (5) which is disposed between the heating body (2) and the casing (4); an electrode (6) which is connected to the heating body (2) from outside the casing (4); an insulating section (7) which seals a gap between the casing (4) and the electrode (6); an electrode chamber (8) which constitutes a space formed inside the casing (4) and around the electrode (6) that is outside the heating body (2), the electrode chamber (8) being formed by providing a gap between the electrode (6) and the mat (5); and a circulatory passage (9) which is provided with two openings (91) on either the upstream side or downstream side of the heating body (2), and which passes around the electrode (6) to be connected from one of the openings (91) to the other of the openings (91).
