<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily recognize that the charger to which a battery pack is connected is an incompatible charger. <P>SOLUTION: When a battery pack 3 is connected to a charger 2, a microcomputer 17 requests a microcomputer 15 to send ID information and checks the ID information sent from the microcomputer 15 against the ID information stored in the ROM of the microcomputer 17f. If these pieces of ID information match, the microcomputer 17 sends information to the microcomputer 15 to the effect that charging is permitted, by which charging starts. If those pieces of ID information do not match, the microcomputer 17 stores the fact as history in a memory 17a thereof that the charger connected is not an authorized product and turns a lamp 23 on to notify a user that the charger currently connected is not an authorized product or that the charger connected in the past was not an authorized product.
