<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder capable of measuring the distance between an own vehicle and a moving body outside the vehicle on the basis of a picked-up image acquired by a single on-vehicle camera. <P>SOLUTION: With regard to a first picked-up image and a second picked-up image that are acquired at different times by an on-vehicle camera 2, an in-image moving body touch-down point P1 corresponding to a touch-down point P where a moving body M touches the road surface is identified in the first picked-up image, and a point Q1 on the first picked-up image and a point Q2 on the second picked-up image, which correspond to a quiescent point Q at the same distance from the vehicle as the touch-down point P of the moving body M, are extracted from the first picked-up image and the second picked-up image. With the use of the extracted points Q1, Q2, the distance between the quiescent point Q and the vehicle is calculated in a method of motion stereo, and the calculated distance is deemed to be the distance between the moving body M and the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
