<p>1310252 Automatic circuit breakers; electromagnetically operated switches FABRIEK VAN ELECTRISCHE APPARATEN NV 24 March 1970 [25 March 1969] 14362/70 Heading H1N An overload responsive switch comprises a fixed conductor 4 and a movable contact arm 3 lying parallel and carrying current in opposite directions so as to be electrodynamically repulsed; the arm 3 has two pivots 5, 6; pivot 5 is normally fixed and pivot 6 has limited movement so that the repulsion acts to increase contact pressure but if the current becomes excessive pivot 5 is released and pivot 6, after moving a short distance, becomes fixed so that the repulsion then acts to open the contacts. The pivot 5 is retained by a permanent magnet 10 against an adjustable current setting spring 17 which assists the opening movement. The pivot 6 is carried by a current carrying member 14 lying parallel to the conductor 4 so as to increase the repulsion; a magnetic core 19 of U- shape (Fig. 3, not shown) surrounds the assembly to concentrate the flux. The member 14 is biased by an adjustable contact pressure spring 18 to engage a fixed stop 7, when pivot 5 is released, so as to fix pivot 6.</p> |
