OFDMA WITH ADAPTIVE SUBCARRIER-CLUSTER CONFIGURATION AND SELECTIVE LOADING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for subcarrier selection for a system employing orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA).

SOLUTION: The method for subcarrier selection includes: a stage of having each of a plurality of subscribers measure channel and interference information for subcarriers based on pilot symbols received from a base station; a stage of having at least one of the subscribers select a set of candidate subcarriers; a stage of providing a base station with feedback information on the set of candidate subcarriers; a stage of having one subscriber receive an indication of subcarriers for the base station; and a stage of having one subscriber receive an indication of subcarriers in the set of subcarriers selected by the base station for use by the one subscriber.
