Provided are: a membrane electrode assembly for an alkaline fuel cell, which comprises an anode electrode, an anion-conductive electrolyte membrane and a cathode electrode in this order, wherein the anode electrode has an anode catalyst layer that is laminated on one surface of the anion-conductive electrolyte membrane, the cathode electrode has a cathode catalyst layer that is laminated on the other surface of the anion-conductive electrolyte membrane, and the weight of an anode catalyst contained in the anode catalyst layer is larger than the weight of a cathode catalyst contained in the cathode catalyst layer; and an alkaline fuel cell equipped with the membrane electrode assembly.
