<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing or reducing the symptoms associated with upper respiratory tract infections, such as common colds. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to new microemulsions comprising a non-polar lipid, at least one polar solvent, a surfactant and a polar lipid. Microemulsions of these ingredients provide an environment that substantially encloses airborne particles, and it can be used for entrapping such particles. The microemulsions are especially adapted for the prevention of symptoms in mammals, which are indirectly or directly caused by airborne particles.
