<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which automatically reduces the total number of frame static images to be used for a mosaicing process, thereby suppressing deceleration of processing and simultaneously reducing a burden on a user in operation at the time. <P>SOLUTION: When sampling the frame static images from captured moving images, if the cumulative movement vector is not smaller than a threshold between a plurality of sheets of continuous frames of moving images or if the difference between two sheets of continuous frames in the moving direction of the subject is not smaller than the threshold, the former frame is sampled as a frame static image.
