<p>1312131 Suspension levelling valves SCOVILL MFG CO 4 Aug 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 37617/70 Heading B7D A vehicle suspension levelling valve comprises a dashpot chamber 36 containing a dashpot vane 64, a valve chamber 42 containing a valve plate 30, a shaft 40 connected to the vane 64 and valve plate 30 and rotatable by a stiffly yieldable arm 16 in response to changes in the height of the vehicle frame F above the rear axle A, and two pairs of spring-loaded plastics bushings 46s, 78s and 48e, 76e disposed opposite one another on each side of the valve plate 30, the valve plate 30 having orifices which provide selective communication between the bushings 46s, 78s or 48e, 76e according to the rotary position of the valve plate 30 to supply compressed air to shock absorbers 14 to exhaust air therefrom. The bushes 75e, 78s are disposed in bores 76, 78 connected by a passage 80 and communicating with the shock absorbers 14 through a control port fitting 22 and pipes 20. The bush 48e is disposed in a bore 48 communicating with an exhaust fitting 56 containing a one-way valve. The bush 46s is disposed in a bore 46 communicating with a compressed air supply pipe 24 through a supply fitting 26 and a pressure regulating valve including a piston 57 which is displaced against the force of an adjustable loading spring 88 if the supply pressure is too high to close communication between the supply fitting 26 and the bore 46. The dashpot chamber 36 is filled with oil and the vane 64 has an aperture 66. The arm 16 is connected to a collar 90 on the shaft 40 by a stiff coil spring which bends to absorb transient movements of the arm since the oil in the dashpot chamber 36 offers a high resistance to rapid rotation of the arm. In another embodiment, Fig. 8 (notshown), the arm includes a rigid member which is rotatably mounted on the shaft and carries a spring-loaded plunger bearing against a flat on the shaft.</p> |
