The motor drive for a conveyor in an explosive atmosphere has a fixed housing (2) with a rotor (3) moving relative to it. There are areas of reduced spacing width (5-7) between the housing and rotor. During the movement of the movable rotor sparking is reduced, as the faces of the areas with reduced spacing are made of a material with a melting point below the ignition point of the explosive atmosphere.
