#CMT# #/CMT# Producing a double flanged joint comprises applying an adhesive to an inner or outer flange, contacting the adhesive with the other flange, folding the outer flange around the inner flange so that adhesive is present on the inside of the joint, pressing the joint and heating the adhesive. The adhesive has a viscosity of more than 900 Pas at 25[deg] C. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are also included for: (1) double flanged joint produced as above; (2) article with a double flanged joint as above. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Articles having double flanged joints as above are useful as means of transport, especially automobiles, buses, heavy goods vehicles, rail vehicles, ships or aircraft, or as white goods, especially washing machines, tumble dryers or dishwashers. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Formation of bubbles and fissures in the adhesive is minimized. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preferred Materials: The adhesive has a viscosity of 1000-4000 Pas at 25[deg] C. The adhesive is a heat-curable one-part epoxy adhesive comprising an epoxy resin, a heat-activatable hardener and an end-blocked polyurethane prepolymer, or a two-part epoxy, polyurethane or (meth)acrylic adhesive that hardens or prehardens at room temperature. The adhesive contains hard spacer particles, especially glass, ceramic, metal, alloy, alumina, silica, zirconia, boron nitride or silicon carbide. A sealant is applied to the joint before or after heating the adhesive. The sealant is a two-part epoxy, polyurethane or (meth)acrylic sealant that hardens or prehardens at room temperature or is a vulcanizable rubber sealant.
|
