<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of easily securing color balance and light volume of illumination light while promoting downsizing, long operating life and low cost, and to provide a projection video display provided therewith. <P>SOLUTION: A video display comprises: a light source unit that includes multiple monochromatic light sources for emitting light having a different wavelength respectively; a DMD that forms image light by modulating light output by the light source unit, based on an input video signal; an image display unit that displays the image light formed by the DMD; and a control unit that controls driving of the light source unit. The control unit sets a monochromatic luminescence period to cause at least two monochromatic light sources among the multiple monochromatic light sources to produce luminescence in a time-sharing manner and a multicolor luminescence period to cause at least two monochromatic light sources among the multiple monochromatic light sources to produce luminescence simultaneously, within one frame period, based on a result of analyzing a video signal according to frame-by-frame image data. Furthermore, the control unit changes a ratio of amount of luminescence produced by at least two monochromatic light sources in the multicolor luminescence period according to the image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
