The method involves maintaining high vehicle power supply voltage and/or raising the vehicle power supply voltage by a pressure regulating valve (7) at a full load of a combustion engine and depending on pressure in a common-rail fuel injection system. High fuel pressure is maintained in the injection system by the valve. The vehicle power supply voltage is not lowered during desired requirement of the fuel pressure in the injection system, where the desired requirement of the fuel pressure is above 2000bar.
