<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of prolonging the service life of a fixing member and further capable of prompting a user to replace a fixing device with new one at an appropriate time by accurately predicting the service life of the fixing member. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming device comprises: a fixing member that has an endless belt shape and is wound around a plurality of rollers; a pressure member that is brought in pressure contact with the fixing member and forms a nip section; a fixing device having a traveling position adjusting mechanism for adjusting a traveling position of the fixing member in the axis direction of the plurality of rollers; and a controller for controlling the traveling position adjusting mechanism. Upon a printing request, based on information related to a recording medium to be passed (a step 1), the controller predicts wear of the fixing member in a region through which both ends of the recording medium to be passed in the width direction of the fixing member at a current traveling position thereof (steps 2 and 3) and, based on a prediction result of wear of the fixing member (a step 4), adjusts the traveling position of the fixing member in the axis direction of the plurality of rollers by the traveling position adjusting mechanism (a step 5). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
