[Problem] To provide a molded body which uses a material effectively utilizing a natural material and has low linear expansion coefficient, high light transmittance and adequate moisture permeability. Specifically, to provide a transparent base which has low linear expansion coefficient, high light transmittance and adequate moisture permeability. [Solution] A transparent base which contains at least an oxidized polysaccharide and has a linear expansion coefficient of 50 ppm/°C or less for the temperature range from 30°C to 150°C (inclusive) and a light transmittance at 660 nm of 70% or more. A method for producing the transparent base comprises, in the following order: an oxidation step wherein a cellulose is oxidized in water by the action of a co-oxidizing agent, while using 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine-N-oxyl or a derivative thereof as a catalyst; a fibrillation step wherein cellulose fibers are formed by fibrillating the oxidized cellulose in water; and a base formation step wherein a transparent base is formed using a cellulose dispersion liquid that contains the cellulose fibers. |
