<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding device that can securely maintain an upper surface position of sheets to the range of a feedable height even if multiple sheets are fed, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet surface detecting sensor 22 conducts an upper surface position detection of a sheet S twice before and after a pickup roller 11 is brought into contact with the sheet S. When the sensor detects that the upper surface position of the sheet becomes lower than a prescribed position in detection before the pickup roller 11 is brought into contact with the sheet S, an intermediate plate 20 is lifted without conducting a second detection a plurality of times after the pickup roller 11 is brought into contact with the sheet. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
