<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading apparatus which can prevent foreign materials such as dust and dirt adhered to a foreign material removal member that removes the foreign materials such as roller shavings, document paper dust, dust and dirt from adhering again to a platen surface by removing the foreign materials adhered to the foreign material removal member without increase in an apparatus size due to increase in the number of components. <P>SOLUTION: The document reading apparatus comprises: a scraper 30 removing foreign materials adhered to a reading surface of a platen; a cleaning member 33 removing the foreign materials on the scraper 30; and one drive motor MT driving the scraper 30 and the cleaning member 33.
