The process comprises passing water, which is polluted by hydrocarbon emulsion and contains surfactant, in parallely assembled porous tubular membranes, and injecting compressed air in the polluted water to drive out impurities. The membranes have a dimension to retain a part or entire polluting elements, and the polluted water is passed in a direction not perpendicular to a surface of the membranes. A space containing the polluted water has a pressure that is higher than a space containing the purified water. A pressure difference between the space containing the polluted water and an interior of the tubular membrane having treated water is caused by a suction pump. Each membrane is enclosed in an envelope having passages for allowing the polluted water to pass towards tubes (10), which are immersed in a tank for receiving the water that is subjected to a depollution treatment.
