<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a cause of abnormal stop of a carriage. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a carriage 100 which can reciprocate in a main scanning direction and controls a main scanning position of the carriage 100 with a linear encoder. The apparatus includes: an abnormal stop detection means for detecting the abnormal stop of the carriage 100; a side plate arrival detection means (resist sensor 120 and detection mark 140) for detecting the arrival of the carriage; and a determination means for determining whether the carriage is located in a side plate position by the side plate arrival detection means when the abnormal stop means detects the abnormal stop of the carriage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
