<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt conveyor device capable of highly accurately correcting meandering of a belt, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the belt conveyor device preventing easy occurrence of flexure, buckling, vibration and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The belt conveyor device includes an endless belt and a plurality of rollers around which the endless belt is wound, and the plurality of rollers include a driving roller and a steering roller. The steering roller is disposed at a turning position of a belt, and a first driven roller is disposed at an upper position near the upstream side of the steering roller. A second driven roller is disposed at a lower position near the downstream side of the steering roller. The end part in the axial direction of the steering roller is located inside a side edge of the belt. At a position turned around by the steering roller, detecting means for detecting the position of one side edge of the belt is provided in contact with the side edge.
