<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the setting of an user to be easily performed before reading a commodity. <P>SOLUTION: A commodity code reader 2 comprises an image data capturing part 51, a bar code reading part 52, an authenticating part 53 and an information outputting part 54. The image data capturing part 51 captures an image imaged by a camera 20. The bar code reading part 52, if an user is authenticated, detects a code symbol included in the captured image and reads code information corresponding to the code symbol. The authenticating part 53 authenticates the user by comparing at least a partial region of the captured image with an image for authentication preset for each user in authentication data F.
