A positional offset measurement system for determining the spatial relationship between two surfaces comprises a first end assembly associated with a first surface; a second end assembly associated with a second surface and an intermediate assembly which is operable to travel between the first surface and the second surface; wherein said intermediate assembly is provided with an inertial navigation system operable to detect data relating to angular motion and linear motion and each of the first and second end assembly and said intermediate assembly is provided with at least one communication module such that signals transmitted between an end assembly and the intermediate assembly by the communication modules can provide data to be used in conjunction with the data from the intermediate assembly to determine the relative position of the first surface and the second surface. |
