<p>A connecting apparatus comprises a combination port, a detecting unit, a connector control unit and a data processing unit. The combination port is compliant with two or more standards of connection, and accepts both RJ-11 and RJ-45 (Ethernet) connectors 601. The detecting unit detects or senses an electrical signal when a plug is inserted into the port (determining what type of connector has been inserted), and the data processing unit 609 generates the control signal based on a detection result. The connector control unit 610 controls and switches the line combinations 602-606 running from the port according to the control signal. The port may include eight pins corresponding to the eight pins of the RJ-45 connector, six of which correspond to the six pins of an RJ-11 connector. The RJ-11 connector might be used for DSL standard 607, while the RJ-45 connector might be used for 10BASE-T (Ethernet), 100BASE-TX (fast Ethernet) or 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) standard 608.</p> |
