PIEZOELECTRIC ACTUATOR

A piezoelectric actuator (2) for a fuel injection valve (1) has an actuator body (13) with a multiplicity of ceramic layers (25, 26, 27, 27', 27') and a multiplicity of electrode layers (28, 29, 30, 31, 32) arranged between the ceramic layers. Here, a cavity (50) is formed within the actuator body (13). In this way, it is possible for tensile stresses within the actuator body (13) of the piezoelectric actuator (2) to be displaced into non-critical regions, or dissipated in a controlled fashion by means of targeted crack initiation in said regions.
