A resilient pad 10, suitable for an article of footwear, comprises a plurality of pocketed springs 12, each of which is located in a discrete pocket formed between two layers 14a, 14b of material. The two layers 14a, 14b are preferably bonded together at least at locations between the springs 12. The springs 12 are coil springs of stainless steel or titanium wire, and are wider than they are tall.
