Machine for the mechanical descaling of metal wire or rod by rolling, using at least one pair of rolls with a roll gap adjusted by a pressure screw, the rolls being rotated by the travel of the rod. The machine is also fitted with at least one pair of descaling brushes rotated in opposite directions by two independent motors, one brush being located on each side of the wire or rod. Each brush is mounted on the shaft of its driving motor, which is located on a flange mounted on a pivot and connected via an L-shaped lever to a sliding counterweight so the pressure exerted by each brush on the wire or rod can be adjusted. The axes of the brushes pref. form an angle of 45-90 degrees with the rod axis; each brush pref. consists of metal wires pressed between two discs. Descaling wire, rod or bar with dias. which can vary between wide limits. Most descaling is currently achieved by chemicals in baths creating noxious vapours, and also requiring neutralisation before their disposal to avoid environmental pollution. The invention eliminates chemical descaling. |
