PURPOSE: A shock reducing assist device and method are provided to automatically implement an additional damping function when the amount of an impact that a damaged bumper can absorb exceeds a fixed level. CONSTITUTION: A shock reducing assist device(100) comprises a spring part(110), a damper part(120), and a slider part(130). The spring part reduces displacement against an impact, caused by damage of a bumper, to a first level or less by absorbing the impact through elastic deformation of a spring. The damper part is damaged with the impact into the shape of a tank in order to reduce the impact exceeding the first level to a second level or less by distribution. The slider part is transferred with a vehicle body in the transmission direction of the impact exceeding the second level in order to reduce the impact to a third level or less.
