Heterocyclic substd. alkanoic acids of formula (Ie and their salts are new (where Ar is opt. substd. 1,2-phenylene; X1 is O or S; R1 is -Ph-X2-CR4-COR5 (Ia) is H, lower alkyl or the gp. (Ia); one of R1 and R2 is at the 2 posn. and the other at 3 posn.; Ph is opt. substd. phenylene; X2 is O or S; R3 and R4 are H or alkyl; R5 is opt. etherified OH or opt. substd. amino). They are prepd. e.g. by reacting XCR3R4.COR5 (X=reactively esterified OH) with a cpd. (I) in which R1 is replaced by -Ph-X2-H. (I) active or normalise fibrinolysis; lower serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels and protect against pulmonary embolism. The normal dose for a 70 kg adult is 150-750 mg. In an example, 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzofuran, methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl 2-bromoheptanoate were reacted to give ethyl 2- 4-(2-benzofuranyl)phenoxy heptanoate. |
