A device, such as a hair sampling tube or hair trap which samples material such as hair or fur forming the body covering of the creature, comprises a tube (20 Fig 1) with an opening (21) at one end, a box (30) at the other and a housing (40) below the tube which contains a sampling arrangement with a collection surface in the form of adhesive tape on a spool 50 which may be selectively moved from a retracted position and protrude into a housing section when an arrangement of sensors 70,71,90 is triggered, so that a sample of the covering of the creature sticks to the tape as it passes over the adhesive surface, after which the collection surface of the tape is moved onto a new, unused section for collection of the next sample. |
