PURPOSE:To prepare o-phenylphenol useful as a fungicide, bactericide, agricultural chemicals, etc., and its precursor useful as a solvent and anti-oxidant of pesticides, etc., by the gas-phase catalytic reaction of cyclohexanone and/or cyclohexanol and phenol. CONSTITUTION:o-Phenylphenol or its precursor is prepared by the catalytic gas- phase reaction of cyclohexanone and/or cyclohexanol with phenol using a catalyst comprising (A) one or more metals selected from Zn, In, V, Zr, Cr, Mo, W, Ti, Ni, Nb, Pb, and Ta, or (B) a combination of the (A) metals and one or more elements selected from Pd, Pb, Rh, Ir, Ru, and Cu, or their oxides. EFFECT:Since the reaction proceeds in a gaseous phase, the process can be easily made continuous, and the efficiency of the preparation is high. |
