PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent light from being concentratedly emitted locally in a light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of grooves is formed on a light guide plate(100). Each side light emitting device(310) is inserted into each groove. A light route shift layer(200) is formed on each groove. The light route shift layer shifts the route of light emitted from the side light emitting device. The light route shift layer is formed by a resin.
