BICYCLIC CARBOHYDRATE COMPOUNDS USEFUL IN THE TREATMENT OF INFECTIONS CAUSED BY FLAVIVIRIDAE SP., SUCH AS HEPATITIS C AND BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA VIRUSES

We describe the use of bicyclic carbohydrates for the treatment of infections caused by Flaviviridae, especially hepatitis C virus infections, particularly the use of a pharmaceutically effective amount of a bicyclic carbohydrate having the formula: (see above formula) wherein: R1 is selected from the group consisting of -alkyl, -aryl and -benzyl; R2 and R3 are selected from the group consisting of -alkyl and -aryl; R4 is an -aryl; X is O; or a pharmaceutically active salt thereof in treating a Flaviviridae sp. infection.
