PURPOSE: Apparatus for preventing explosion of secondary battery is provided to block charging current by detecting abnormality like the expansion or heating of a secondary battery, thereby preventing the explosion of a secondary battery more effectively. CONSTITUTION: Apparatus for preventing explosion of secondary battery(100) comprises a sensing part(110) including an expansion sensor(112) for detecting the expansion of a secondary battery which is in charging by a charger(200), and a control part(120) blocking charging current supplied to the secondary battery in case of the secondary battery is expanded over the standard value. The expansion sensor is mounted to a point separated at constant distance from the secondary battery, and detects the expansion rate of the secondary battery by measuring distance to the secondary battery. The expansion sensor is one selected form an ultrasonic sensor, an infrared ray sensor, and an optical sensor.
