The lifting hook which has a tail piece joined to a body going around a throat (14) and going upwards to an end. An opening (48) is left between the end and the tail and this is closed by a pivoted locking piece (56). This is a rectangular plate with webs on its internal face and grooves on its external face. The lock pivots at one end on a pin (34) supported by the tail piece, between open and closed positions. A spring returns it to the closed position. A claw piece works in conjunction with the lock.
