PURPOSE: A dishwasher and a control method thereof are provided to separate foreign materials from a filter because a level of washing water is controlled by on/off driving of a washing pump. CONSTITUTION: A dishwasher comprises a washing compartment, a sump(20), a filter unit(50), a washing pump(70), a drain pump(90), and a control unit. The sump arranged in the lower part of the washing compartment stores washing water. The filter unit is installed in the sump, thereby filtering foreign materials of the washing water. The washing pump and drain pump is respectively installed in one side and the other side. The washing pump provides a driving force in order that the washing water can be circulated through the washing compartment and sump. The drain pump provides a driving force in order that the washing water can be discharged to outside. The control unit controls driving of the washing pump or drain pump for cleaning or rinsing dishware in the washing compartment or drain of the washing water. The control unit repeats on/off driving of a washing pump for preset times when the cleaning or rinsing of the dishware is completed while the washing water is not drained. |
