FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: method for protection from lightning involves transfer of charge onto a conducting lightning-protection film, thereby eliminating lightning-induced charges on the conducting surface and protecting the conductor from being struck by lightning. The apparatus for protection from lightning has a conducting film and an insulating film between the conducting film and the conductor, wherein the conducting film and the surface of the conductor respectively form two capacitor electrodes after deposition of the insulating film on the conductor. A protective film can also be deposited on the outer surface of the conducting film. The insulating film can be replaced with a layer of air such that the lightning-protection film includes the conducting film only.
