<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor having high reliability and good productivity. <P>SOLUTION: On a mount base 2, a pin stay 3 in which electrode pins 5 and 5 are buried, and a pin stay 4 in which electrode pins 6 and 6 are buried, are fitted and fixed. A detection element 7 is connected and fixed to the pair of the electrode pins 5. A compensation element 8 is connected and fixed to the pair of the electrode pins 6. 1 is a cap which is disposed between the detection element 7 and the compensation element 8, and has a heat insulating plate 1a acting for heat insulation. The cap 1 is formed in a generally cylindrical shape, and a flat surface 1b is formed at a part of an outer peripheral portion thereof. The flat surfaces 1b are provided at two opposite places on the outer peripheral portion. The flat surface 1b is formed at the part of the outer peripheral portion of the cap 1, so that the flat surface 1b appearing as an external shape can be used as a position standard.
